{"id":186,"date":"2016-01-15T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-01-15T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/feelgoodtoday.com\/blog\/?p=186"},"modified":"2016-01-15T12:25:51","modified_gmt":"2016-01-15T12:25:51","slug":"students-get-brainpower-from-exercise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/feelgoodtoday.com\/blog\/students-get-brainpower-from-exercise\/","title":{"rendered":"Students get Brainpower from Exercise"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Aerobic Exercise Enhances Cognitive Performance<\/h3>\n<p>In a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pubmed\/21722657\" target=\"_blank\">r<span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">esearch study<\/span><\/a><\/span> conducted in Ireland, exercise made a difference for students who were instructed\u00a0to memorize\u00a0a slideshow\u00a0of photos\u00a0with a stranger&#8217;s name and face. Moments later,\u00a0researchers asked the students to recall the names to get an idea of their basic memory abilities.\u00a0The\u00a0students formed\u00a0two groups, one that spent 30 minutes on an exercise bike and another that sat during that time. Finally, each group was asked\u00a0to recall the names again and to do a blood test.<\/p>\n<p>The group of students that exercised showed significant cognitive performance enhancement. Their blood had\u00a0more brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a newly discovered key to unlocking nerve cell health. The researchers found these cognitive benefits to occur immediately after exercise. The benefits of long-term exercise were even greater.<\/p>\n<h3>Get Moving, Don&#8217;t Be a Statistic<\/h3>\n<p>Aerobic exercise is an essential way to keep your mind sharp. Sadly,\u00a080% of American adults do not get the recommended &#8220;150 minutes a week of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity, or 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity&#8221; according to a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/data\/nhis\/earlyrelease\/earlyrelease201506_07.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">recent survey<\/a><\/span><\/span> done by\u00a0the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
